Skedaddle History update:
1.31.02
Bill Morrison had noticed the Skedaddle page on the website, and furnished the name of the builder and some facts about the craft. After many phone calls, I located Lowell Simmons in Key Largo, Florida.  Oddly, he lives about a mile from two of my brothers-in-law!!
Skedaddle aft photoLowell purchased plans for this Roberts design S-class hydro from an ad in Propeller. Starting in 1982, and in two years he constructed the boat in his Muncie, Indiana shop.  He was and still is a high school shop teacher.  The boat was built to the lightest of standards.  Her original name was Feather Flyte to celebrate her light construction. He has video of a test a Miami Marine Stadium. This was the only boat Lowell built.
He ran her a few seasons; her lightness was evident with several blow-overs.  Sold to Dayton’s Jon Meyer; date unknown, it ran in the MACH Series. Later sold to Mac McCarthy and then came to me.
Lowell currently races electric powered Tarus autos in conjunction with another high school shop project.
All this talk of hydroplanes has rekindled Lowell’s interest in our passion.  He had no idea that raceboats were being restored. Sometime this spring, Lowell and his boat the Feather Flyte will be reunited.

A 2000cc Pinto engine provides power. Boat is complete, but needs deck, paint and something to replace that "cowling??"

Look at the grin on Jack's face!
