MOTOR
Motor Description 6 cylinder - 1964 Chevrolet Corvair
Stock. Bill Bunn was an innovator in the class. Engine was stripped of all fans, bellows and ducts. The boat was modified to send air over the engine and out through the bottom of the boat (assisted by the
exhaust pressure). There was a sprinkling system installed to help cool the engine. This played hell with the ignition. He solved this problem by completely encasing the ignition system in plastic. Bill was a stickler for weight. He had no starter solenoid but a rod that enabled the driver to manually engage the starter. Once the engine started, the force of the flywheel would disengage it. Bill always said, "the Corvair has to be better than the Falcon, because it has 2 carburetors, instead of one.
