The Laura 3 was purposely built in 1953/54 to break the 1952 world water straight-away speed record that Slo Mo Shun IV set at 178.497 mph. To read more about that attempt, click here.

Art Maynard was the second person to officially break the 100 mph barrier in a limited class hydroplane - accomplished August 11, 1952. Restless III was a Wickens 225 cubic inch hydro running a Ford Six. Read about that and some of the his other boats in his biography.
